Descriptive Essay Essay, Research Paper
The vivid memory of the Nebraska plains never leaves me. I can return to this place at any moment. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. My lungs are filled with the clean and pure air, a welcome change from the thick hazy air of the outside world. I am alone with only my thoughts and emotions to keep me company. The summer breeze, warm upon my face is filled with the sweet smell of the tall billowing grass.
Soft green hills surround me. I am not certain where they begin or where they end. Far into the distance I can see another farmhouse. Only an occasional windmill disrupts the scenery.
Clusters of bright yellow sunflowers are growing amidst the green prairie grass. I pick a sunflower and take pleasure in its sweet fragrance. I pull each soft petal off and toss it into the wind. Puffs of white cotton from a cottonwood tree float slowly past me.
As I walk, the thick blades of green prairie grass tickle my legs. Huge brown grasshoppers jump left and right to escape my path. Except for the occasional chirping of a meadowlark, it is so quiet I feel as though the world exists only here and I am the only person allowed to witness this beautiful portrait of nature.
Minutes turn into hours and the sun begins to sink below the horizon. The sky is splashed with yellow, gold and orange. Crickets begin to sing their evening song. I climb a large hill and when I look down, a small stream beckons me. As I get closer I can hear the bubbling sound as it flows over the rocks beneath surface. I gather some smooth cool rocks from the bottom of the stream as keepsakes. When I look into the grayish blue water, I see a reflection of a small child. I reach down and touch the cold smooth surface and the ripples distort it. When I look down again I see the image of grown woman.
I am in awe of the simple beauty around me. The complications of everyday life seem so far away. A sense of calm envelops me. This is the most beautiful portrait God has created. Even today when I close my eyes and take a deep breath, the scene is vivid in my mind. The hills that I remember as a child mean as much to me now as they did when I was a child. Their beauty remains untouched, and I will treasure them forever.

Beauty in the Rough
Nature is filled with many inspiring things from majestic mountains to beautiful sunrises. There is so much artistic creativity that nature has inspired, but it’s often of streams and valleys. Rarely do people truly see the tiny pieces that make up such beautiful pictures. Few people can appreciate the beauty of a single standing flower that has water dripping off its leaf after a rain storm, but many people find beauty after a snow fall. Finding a person who finds beauty in a rock is even rarer. Most people think rocks are only beautiful after they have been polished up, and placed in a beautiful gold or platinum setting. Certainly there are exceptions to this, but few find interest in the average rock. Normally it takes a child, or an adult who’s in touch with their inner child, to see the potential of the average, dirt covered rock. However through the eyes of a child, each rock takes on a personality, be it a country cousin or a snooty countess. Come and experience the beauty and majesty of a rock, from the simple stone to the classy diamond.
On a daily basis people pass millions of rocks, ones that we use as stepping stones in our garden to the pebbles in a fish tank. Many of us will see a rock, but we don’t give it any attention at all. These stones are the lowest class of the rock world. Lacking absolutely nothing and having various character traits. Rocks are available in all shapes and sizes, from large to small, rough and smooth, and available in different colors and patterns, swirled brown, cloudy reds and cloudy grey. Like fingerprints, or people themselves, no two rocks are alike. Opening a door to the imagination, children play with rocks every day; weather it’s skipping stones across a pond or loading boulders into a Tonka truck. Adults smile and indulge the child.
A Turnkey Linux COTS Clusters for x86 and IA64
Rocks Cluster is an open source project that provides users with a Linux distribution based on the CentOS operating system and designed from the ground up to offer a full featured cluster on a CD solution for Red Hat Linux clusters.
Previously known as NPACI Rocks Cluster Tool Kit, the distribution allows anyone to easily and quickly built a Rocks cluster. It also allows experienced users to build computational clusters, visualization tiled-display walls, and grid endpoints.Based on CentOS
Being based on the CentOS Linux distribution, which in turn is based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system, the Rocks Cluster distro provides a powerful, stable and reliable enterprise-ready system that features a unique and simple installation process.
It comes with all the necessary tools for managing clusters, such as PBS, GM support, Maui, Ganglia, and more. You'll be able to deploy, upgrade, scale and manage clusters without much hassle. At the moment, only the 64-bit (x86_64) architecture is supported.Getting started with Rocks Cluster
In order to built a compute cluster, users would have to create a bare-bones cluster, boot their front-end with the Kernel/Boot roll, and add the base Roll, OS Roll Disk 1, OS Roll Disk 2, and OS Disk 3 ISO images. For full featured clusters, you should also add the Area51, SGE, Ganglia, HPC, Python, Perl, and web-server rolls.
On the other hand, those of you who want to build a custom cluster should choose from Rocks Cluster's a la carte selection and download the Base and Kernel/Boot rolls, as well as all of the operating system rolls.Bottom line
All in all, Rocks Cluster is a CentOS-based enterprise-ready Linux distribution used by hundreds of researchers worldwide to install their own cluster. It's a unique operating system powered by a plethora of open source technologies and engineered to easily deploy manageable clusters.

title: Rock N RollWhile the exact time frame that the first strains of rock and roll music came bursting forth is nearly impossible to pinpoint, 1955 is arguably the year that it all began. On July 9 of that year, the new #1 single on the Best Sellers in Stores chart was (We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets. It would have been impossible for anyone to predict the impact that song had on our culture. It was the ending of all that came before. it was the beginning of the rock era. Nothing would ever be the same again. Rock Around the Clock certainly wasn't the first rock and roll song. And Haley didn't invent the term rock and roll either. What Haley did was to bring rock and roll to the consciousness of America -- and the world. When Rock Around the Clock was played under the opening credits to the MGM release, The Blackboard Jungle, it created a sensation. There were riots in theatres. Parents and teachers were taken aback by the new defiance of America's youth. There was a rise of youth gangs,
teen-age vandalism, and juvenile delinquency. Black leather jackets and greasy ducktail haircuts became the symbols of teen rebellion. What was the cause? Who was to blame? Some claimed that Communists were subverting the youth. But others found a cause closer to home -- that new, arousing, loud, screaming music called rock and roll. There's nothing they can do to stop this new solid beat of American music from sweeping across the land in a gigantic tidal wave of happiness. -- Alan Freed

Management of computer clusters
Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is usually available for server machines. It can use the dedicated IPMI Ethernet port or share the first LAN port for remote monitoring and control.
KVM switch can be used for non-server workstations or older machines.
Please refer to the User Manuals page for details on how to use IPMI or KVM. SuperMicro has a suite of Server Management Utilities to perform health monitoring, power management and firmware maintenance (BIOS and IPMI/BMC firmware upgrade).Installation
It is recommended that modulefiles are stored in a directory shared among all nodes. For example, create the directory under /share/apps, and add it to /usr/share/Modules/init/.modulespath:Using the ZFS file system
Due to the licensing of the software, ZFS on Linux is supplied in source code only even if you have already selected the zfs-linux roll when installing Rocks cluster. Please refer to zfs-linux Roll: Users Guide for how to build the binaries.
To make these file systems available as /share/$USER/spaceX, add the following line to the end of /etc/auto.share
And create /etc/auto.zfsfs with the following contents, and propagate it using 411 .
You need to enable the share points on every boot by adding to /etc/rc.d/rc.local the following line:Configuring Torque compute node settings
Edit /var/spool/torque/server_priv/nodes to include node specifications, such as:
after which restart pbs_server by executing "service pbs_server restart". In this example, the prefixes "nt" and "ps" (configured in maui.cfg ) are used to denote node type and processor speed information.Making your frontend run queued jobs for PBS (Torque/Maui)
If you have installed the Torque roll. issue the following commands as root on the frontend.
The first line setting $frontend just assures that the name matches that returned by /bin/hostname (which is generally the FQDN). They must match, or pbs_mom will refuse to start/work.
The next two lines set the number of cores to be used for running jobs. You probably should reserve a few cores for all the Rocks overhead processes, and for interactive logins, compiling, etc. In this example, we save 4 cores for the overhead and assign the rest for jobs. This is accomplished by setting the "np = $N" (np means number of processors) value.
Alternatively, you can edit /opt/torque/server_priv/nodes by hand, and do "service pbs_server restart" to make it re-read the file. Next, make sure pbs_mom is started on the frontend:
If you have no compute nodes, you can create /etc/pbs.conf by hand. It should look like this:
You should now be able to see the frontend listed in the output of "pbsnodes -a", and any jobs submitted to the queue will run there.Creating additional queues in Torque
Run the following commands as root to create two queues, E5-26xx and E54xx, which include only nodes with the corresponding features, as can be defined in /var/spool/torque/server_priv/nodes (see Configure Torque compute node settings ).
NOTE: Separate queues are not necessary for requesting jobs to be run on certain machines. Similar effect can be accomplished by specifying node features in the submission script, for example:Configuring Maui scheduler behavior
Change the settings in /opt/maui/maui.cfg to the following, and add the parameters if not already present. Restart maui to incorporate the changes: service maui restartInstalling Software
After installing a new software package, add an entry, either a single file or a directory named some_software, in the directory /share/apps/modules/modulefiles. In the case of multiple files (representing different software versions) existing in the directory, create file .version to specify the default version.Using Rocks Rolls
Refer to the Roll Developer’s Guide in the Support and Docs section of Rocks cluster’s web site for how to create your own Rolls.
After the the frontend comes back up you should do the following to populate the node list:
then kickstart all your nodes
If installing Service Pack Rolls, it is critical that you run cluster-kickstart-pxe as it will force the compute nodes to PXE boot. It is important that you PXE boot the nodes for the first install, because with a PXE boot based install, the nodes with get their initrd from the frontend and inside the initrd is a new tracker-client that is compatible with the new tracker-server. After the first install, a new initrd will be on the hard disk of the installed nodes and then it is safe to run /boot/kickstart/cluster-kickstart.Using YUM repositories
Several YUM repositories are configured but disabled by default. Add "--enablerepo=REPO_NAME" to yum commands to temporarily enable REPO_NAME.Adding a software package distributed as RPMs
Create a roll first:
Edit extend-compute.xml, remove unused “<package> </package>” lines
Now reinstall the compute nodes:Adding a software application distributed as source code
Install it into the /share/apps/some_software directory. A typical process is shown below:Uninstalling Software Removing Rolls Upgrade
Create an update roll:
Add the created update roll created to the installed distribution
New installed nodes will automatically get the updated packages. It is wise to test the update on a compute nodes to verify that updates did not break anything. To force a node to reinstall, run the command:
If something goes wrong you can always revert the updates removing the update roll.
After you tested the update on some nodes with the previous step, you can update the frontend using the standard yum commandBackup
Create a Restore Roll that will contain site-specific info and can be used to upgrade or reconfigure the existing cluster quickly.Adminstration Adding a user
In the default Rocks configuration, /home/ is an automount directory. By default, directories in an automount directory are not present until an attempt is made to access them, at which point they are (usually NFS) mounted. This means you CANNOT create a directory in /home/ manually! The contents of /home/ are under autofs control. To "see" the directory, it's not enough to do a ls /home as that only accesses the /home directory itself, not its contents. To see the contents, you must ls /home/username.Implementing disk quota
For example, if you want to export the directory /export/scratch1, add the following to /etc/exports:
This exports the directory only to nodes that are on the internal network (in the above example, the internal network is configured to be 10.0.0.0)
For example, say you want /export/scratch1 on the frontend machine (named frontend-0) to be mounted as /home/scratch1 (or /share/scratch1) on each compute node. Add the following entry to /etc/auto.home (or /etc/auto.share):
Now when you login to any compute node and change your directory to /home/scratch, it will be automounted.Keeping files up to date on all nodes using the 411 Secure Information Service
Add the files to /var/411/Files.mk, and execute the following:Changing the public IP address on the frontend
It is strongly recommended that the Fully-Qualified Host Name (e.g.. metropolis1.chem.umn.edu) be chosen carefully and never be modified after the initial setup, because doing so will break several cluster services (e.g.. NFS, AutoFS, and Apache). If you want to change the public IP address, you can do so by:
While the free essays can give you inspiration for writing, they cannot be used 'as is' because they will not meet your assignment's requirements. If you are in a time crunch, then you need a custom written term paper on your subject (descriptive essay)

Nirvana: A Quest for The Hall of Fame
When it comes to an album that defined, shaped, and aspired a whole generation there’s few that come close to Nirvana’s 1991 Nevermind album. With the release of just one single, Nirvana not only murder the popular glam rock scene but gave birth to a new genre known as grunge/alternative. The Nevermind album has not only sold over 10 million copies alone in the United States, but it has also gone on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide. Spite these tremendous feats; Nirvana still remains unrecognized as a band, inspiration, and hieroglyph of a whole generation. As of 6/15/2013 Nirvana will technically be eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame. If chosen Nirvana will finally be able to be fully recognized for their genius and contributions towards rock n roll.
When Nevermind was realize in the fall of 1991 it instantly debuted number one on the top of billboard thrusting Nirvana and lead singer Kurt Cobain into the limelight. With it’s lead single Smell like Teen Spirit (which I consider to be one of the top ten rock songs of all time) Nirvana provided not only America with a brand new genre, but they also gave a generation that was label as “slackers” and “losers” an anthem to call their own. Other singles like “Come as you are” In the bloom, and Polly cemented Nirvana’s Nevermind album as a classic. With Kurt’s unique raspy voice, and Dave and Krist’s simple straightforward drum and guitar rhythms, Nirvana helped voice and heal a generation full of pain and struggles. Only a few bands like the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and U2 possessed this type of ability, an ability that in my opinion has not been seen since Nirvana’s last album.
Overall Nirvana single handily corrected a lot of what I believe was wrong with rock music in the '80s. All the glitz, flash, and glamor that was becoming the blueprint for all rock bands in that decade was being replace with a more realer down to.

EYES OF WHITE WONDERLAND
West Virginia has captured the perfect vision of what a beautiful, cold, heavy winter should look like. At the top of Salty Forks Mountain, near Snowshoe Ski Resort, a blanket of snow covers the rocky mountain ground and layers of ice develop over all its lakes, streams, and rivers. Millions beyond millions of snowflakes fall from all directions, making any distance appear faint and hazy. Its breath taking to watch as bright, crystal white snow falls from the sky in a slow, graceful way to the ground. After several miles of green plant life and brown, rocky ground has vanished from the scenery; clouds began to fall below the West Virginia Mountains. In high elevation, where clouds can't reach, a lightning storm may occur. At Salty Forks, these storms may be watched from above. Watching from above, clouds circulate around each other as burst of lighting make scattered, white flashes below you. The view is beyond breathtaking and very exciting.
On the surface, lakes develop a thin icy layer. Small streams and rivers carry freezing water between rocks and through dark caves, rivers force mounds of snow through rough rapids and Soothing sounds of running water can be heard from all directions.
After the day turns to night, complete darkness consumes the mountains. Due to the low population of people and minimal construction, Salty Forks has very little lighting. Although the land remains black, the sky becomes infested with bright clusters of beautiful stars. At standing view, the Milky Way can be seen across the entire night sky. Different shades of red, purple, and blue radiate from it. As the sun rises, a gathering of snowy mountains flood the horizon. Shooting rays of light filter throughout crowds of snow covered trees, and white scattered clouds. So, once again I start my day, living, breathing, in this white wonderland I call home.
